VERTICAL AXIS WIND TURBINES

Vertical wind turbines. A closer look.

Looking for a vertical axis wind turbine in India? Start with the rotor design, model specifications and the conditions at your site. AS VAYU offers four vertical turbine families, giving you different starting points for a distributed wind energy project.

What does vertical axis mean?

A vertical axis wind turbine, often called a VAWT, has a rotor that turns around a vertical or near-vertical axis. A horizontal axis wind turbine turns around a horizontal axis. The shape of the turbine is useful to recognize, but shape alone does not tell you how much electricity a particular installation will generate.

For a practical comparison, keep the model name, rated power, rotor diameter, electrical voltage and listed wind speeds together. Avoid selecting a turbine from a photograph or rated wattage alone.

Four AS VAYU families to explore

The H-Type catalogue has 16 models from 100W to 100kW. The range includes smaller variants and larger 10kW, 20kW, 30kW, 50kW, 80kW and 100kW models. These are different system scales, so the tower, electrical equipment and project scope need their own review.

NY-Type covers eight compact multi-blade models from 50W to 1kW. X-Type offers seven compact vertical models from 100W to 2kW. Y-Type contains four spiral vertical models rated at 100W, 200W, 600W and 1kW. Compare the family detail pages for the exact rotor and voltage options.

Read wind speed figures in context

The AS VAYU tables separate start-up wind speed from rated wind speed. A listed start-up value does not mean the turbine delivers its rated power at that speed. Where the presentation does not list a value for the exact model, the website leaves it unconfirmed.

Ask for a model-specific power curve, the assumptions behind any energy estimate and the proposed installation position. A useful proposal explains both the turbine and the conditions required for the assessment.

Questions for your vertical turbine inquiry

Share your project location and describe whether the need is a small essential load, an institutional backup system or a larger campus application. If solar panels, batteries or an inverter are already installed, include their ratings so compatibility can be reviewed.

  • Which exact model and voltage option is being evaluated?
  • What wind information is available at the proposed turbine height?
  • What tower, foundations, controls and protection are included?
  • How will maintenance access and project approvals be handled?

Compare model-level data before shortlisting a turbine. Rated output is a specification, with generation dependent on your site and system.

Common questions

Is a vertical wind turbine automatically suitable for a rooftop?+

No. Turbine orientation does not establish rooftop suitability. Wind conditions, turbulence, structural loads, vibration, access and applicable requirements need a project-specific assessment.

Which AS VAYU vertical turbine has the largest rated output?+

The supplied catalogue lists the AS-H 100KW at 100kW rated power. That is a model rating, not a promise of continuous output at every site.
